Finland’s Ivalo Airport has unveiled its newly refurbished terminal thanks to a €13.5 million investment by operator Finavia.
Finavia formally revealed Ivalo Airport’s new state-of-the-art facilities on Thursday 19 November welcoming Lapland passengers into a refurbished terminal and modern expansion wing accommodating check-in facilities, security check and baggage handling facilities.
“Finavia’s €13.5 million investment at Ivalo Airport is the largest single input in network airport development in the last few years, and as the work is now complete, we are very happy. By making Lapland airports more effective and smooth, we have also otherwise invested extensively in Lapland tourism, and in that way, we are promoting the operating preconditions of the region’s tourism operators”, says Joni Sundelin, director at Finavia.

The design of the renovated terminal, including furniture and lights, focuses on Finnish products and quality. The terminal refurbishment has seen the introduction of a gate area shop selling local produce such as berry products, fish and meat and a new café in the pre-security check area which also offers souvenirs and local handicrafts. The refurbishment project retained a segment of wooden wall and fireplace found in the original terminal.
A number of Finavia airports have undergone redevelopment in Lapland including, renovation of the terminal at Rovaniemi and an overhaul of the air traffic areas at Kittilä Airport in August this year.
