The European Commission published today a new regulation on licenses and medical certification for air traffic controllers (ATCO).
The new regulation, drafted by the European Aviation Safety Agency, establishes mutual recognition of the certificates issued by ATCO training organisations across the European Union and harmonises the medical requirements for pilots and controllers. This will facilitate the mobility of Air Traffic Controllers in Europe.
The rule will become applicable on 30 June 2015. A smooth transition period will enable the EU Member States and the training organisations to gradually adapt to the new regulation until 31 December 2016.
