With over 17% of the vote (42,400 votes), travellers from around the world chose Bordeaux from amongst twenty other major European cities. The success of this project followed by numerous e-travellers, led by Bordeaux Tourist Office and supported by Bordeaux Airport, is the result of a converge of economic interests between tourism professionals.

Bordeaux now proudly bears the prestigious title of European Best Destination 2015. European Best Destinations (EBD) is a European non-profit organisation based in Brussels which promotes culture and tourism in Europe. This label, synonymous with major media coverage and tourism for the city, opens up new development prospects for the region and Bordeaux Airport.

The momentum enjoyed by Bordeaux Airport contributes to Bordeaux’s growing international reputation on a daily basis:

  • 75 regular routes operated by 21 airline companies
  • A surge in low-cost airlines (40% of traffic in 2014), making it easier for more and more Europeans to access Bordeaux and its region every year.
  • Development of routes to major international hubs (Paris, Amsterdam, London, Madrid, Istanbul…), encouraging tourists from China, India, Japan, America, Brazil, Australia etc. to come and visit Bordeaux.

As a true gateway to the Atlantic coast, Bordeaux Airport continues to play its role to the full thanks to a growing network of destinations, enabling the city to extend its influence in Europe and worldwide.
