Welcoming 6.1 million passengers, Frankfurt Airport (FRA) achieved a new monthly passenger record by exceeding the six million passenger mark for the first time in a single month. This represented noticeable growth of 5.4 percent year-on-year.  Furthermore, FRA’s daily traffic volume surpassed the 200,000 passenger level 13 times in August 2014.  Previously, FRA had only passed this daily traffic peak four times within a single month.  Frankfurt Airport also registered its busiest traffic day in history on August 17, 2014, when Germany’s largest aviation hub served 210,599 passengers.  FRA’s cargo throughput (airfreight and airmail) rose by 3.2 percent to 179,555 metric tons, up 3.2 percent compared to the same month last year. Aircraft movements also climbed by 0.6 percent to 42,684 takeoffs and landings.

The airports in Fraport AG’s international portfolio continued to steer a steady growth path in August 2014.  Peru’s Lima Airport (LIM) received 1.5 million passengers in the reporting month, a gain of 7.6 percent year-on-year.  On the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) airports together greeted 1.1 million passengers (up 4.7 percent).  Some 4.5 million passengers used Antalya Airport (AYT) on the Turkish Riviera, a nine percent increase.  With 1.7 million passengers, Russia’s St. Petersburg Airport (LED) registered double-digit growth of 10.9 percent.  With almost 2.9 million passengers, Xi’an Airport (XIY) in central China also saw similar growth of 10.1 percent.  Germany’s Hanover Airport (HAJ) reported 568,044 passengers and growth of 9.7 percent year-on-year.
