As part of the transformation of Indonesia’s airports into world-class facilities, PT. Angkasa Pura 1 (Persero), which operates 13 airports across Eastern Indonesia, today announced the rollout of SITA’s world-class common-use passenger technology. The global air transport IT leader is providing AirportConnect Open, along with its passenger flow monitoring technology and local departure control system. SITA’s platform is being deployed across all the airports quickly and consistently using virtualization technology.
With more than 68 million passengers in 2013, Indonesia is the biggest aviation market in South East Asia and it continues to grow rapidly. This figure is forecast to reach more than 300 million passengers by 2025, not including additional demand expected to result from the Asean Open Sky policy which will be implemented in 2015.
This contract was awarded to SITA by PT. Angkasa Pura Supports, a subsidiary of PT. Angkasa Pura I, (Persero) one of Indonesia’s two airport authorities. It will support growth and modernize the country’s airports enabling them to operate to international standards, exceeding airline and passenger expectations.

Tommy Soetomo, CEO of Angkasa Pura I, said: “Our vision at Angkasa Pura is to run world-class airports improving the experience for all passengers, and we need a reliable platform with international exposure to get us there as quickly as possible. We have set an aggressive timeline to deploy the technology in all our airports within a year. This will allow us to cater for the doubling of passenger numbers expected in Indonesia over the next five years.”
Edyana Paramitasari, CEO, Angkasa Pura Supports, added: “We are working with SITA because SITA has experience not only in Indonesia, but across the world. As part of the project, SITA has worked with our IT team to implement our electronic passenger service charge (ePSC) into its passenger flow monitoring system, and ensured common-use certification on its global platform.”
The ePSC system integrated with the SITA Airport iTrack system, allows the airport operator to monitor the number of passengers from check-in and through the airport to boarding. This provides the combined benefits of accurate revenue collection, while speeding up the check-in and passenger processing and improving the experience at the airports which are managed by PT Angkasa Pura 1 (Persero).
Ilya Gutlin, SITA President Asia Pacific, said: “The deployment of our platform at these 13 airports confirms SITA’s position at the heart of the air transport industry in Indonesia. SITA has been in Indonesia for more than 10 years, and we have successfully provided our common-use system at the international airports in Denpasar, Jakarta, and Surabaya. We are also providing enhanced air-to-ground communications across Indonesia, which will support increased safety and efficiency of air traffic operations. Now with all 13 of these airports using SITA AirportConnect Open, SITA is working together with the Indonesian authorities to ensure that the airports meet world-class standards, while helping to power growth in Indonesian aviation.”
More than 400 airports around the world use SITA AirportConnect Open. It is the only platform capable of providing an integrated approach to Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE), Common Use Passenger Processing Systems (CUPPS) and Common Use Self-Service (CUSS) kiosks, hosted on one platform. Increasingly airports are choosing to deploy SITA’s common-use platform using virtualization technologies. Virtualization allows the airport to run the latest technologies and to incorporate upgrades to its system efficiently and cost-effectively.
Working to the latest industry standards from IATA, AirportConnect Open allows any airline to use any agent desk, gate position or self-service kiosk for passenger check-in and bag drop resulting in a better passenger experience. AirportConnect Open will also maximize the use of Indonesia’s existing airport infrastructure, while enhancing the airports’ attractiveness to leading international airlines because of the simple and efficient integration of their operations.
SITA’s technology deployment, which will be done in phases across the 13 airports, has already begun. Passengers can expect to see immediate improvements as the technology is rolled out to all the airports managed by Angkasa Pura I.
