At the end of January 2014, Fraport AG successfully completed its multi-year management contract at Cairo International Airport (three-letter code CAI), where the Frankfurt-based airport company has provided wide-ranging expertise over the past nine years. Along with ensuring overall smooth-running operations and opening of the world-class Terminal 3, Fraport’s specialists have been instrumental in transforming Cairo’s international airport into a major hub for the North Africa region – including national carrier Egypt Air, which has been a Star Alliance member since 2008.

Fraport AG’s chief financial officer Dr. Matthias Zieschang said: “Our multi-year management contract with Cairo Airport Company (CAC) has been a win-win project for both Cairo International Airport as well as Fraport. Indeed, this project represents another success story in our international business portfolio.” Fraport’s strength in the global airport management business is based on the company’s unique integrated business model, whereby the complete range of airport services and expertise can be provided. Along with regular training services for CAC staff, Fraport also filled three senior management positions in Cairo – executive director, chief operations officer, and chief commercial officer. These Fraport executives worked hand in hand with their Egyptian colleagues. “Fraport is proud of the excellent cooperation with CAC, and we look forward to possible further cooperation in the future, including on a consulting basis,” added Zieschang.

Highlights of Fraport-led projects implemented at CAI during the multi-year management contract include: operational readiness and transfer (ORAT) for inaugurating the new state-of-the-art Terminal 3, optimizing landside and airside operations, improving passenger services, providing customized training, implementing retail and real estate concepts. CAI also won a number of ASQ Awards in Africa during this period.
