Frankfurt Airport (FRA) served approximately 5.2 million passengers in October 2012, up 1.4 percent year-on-year. Despite Hurricane Sandy’s effect on some flights to and from FRA at the end of the month, traffic growth continued in October 2012. Cargo (airfreight and airmail) tonnage declined by 7.3 percent year-on-year to about 180,000 metric tons. Aircraft movements rose by 1.1 percent year-on-year to about 43,000 takeoffs and landings. The accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOW) dropped by 0.8 percent to approximately 2.6 million metric tons.
Fraport’s five consolidated airports – with at least a 50 percent share: Frankfurt Airport (FRA), Antalya (AYT), Burgas (BOJ), Varna (VAR) and Lima (LIM) – grew by 2.7 percent year-on-year to a total of 9.1 million passengers in October 2012. In particular, LIM in the Peruvian capital city recorded strong 14.9 percent growth and welcomed 1.2 million passengers. Serving some 2.7 million passengers, AYT on the Turkish Riviera sustained and even bettered last year’s October figure by 0.5 percent. On the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, BOJ and VAR together received about 67,000 passengers, down 4.2 percent year-on-year.
