A 9.4% increase in international passenger traffic at Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) helped to boost the airport’s total passenger traffic 1.6% for the first half of calendar year 2012. International passenger traffic for the month of June was up 11.4% compared to the same month in 2011 according to preliminary numbers released today by the Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA) Department of Financial Planning and Analysis. Domestic passenger traffic was up less than 1% through June 2012.
A total of 15,866,758 passengers arrived or departed DTW through June keeping the airport on pace to at least match 2011’s year-end total of 32.4 million—the rough equivalent of every man, woman and child living in Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio and Minnesota.
Total cargo continued to grow—up 6.0% for June and 5.3% year-to-date. Aircraft operations (landings and take-offs) at DTW declined 2.2% for both the month of June and year-to-date.
“Maintaining and developing new air service and generating economic opportunities from air cargo continue to be our top priorities,” said Interim WCAA CEO Tom Naughton.
