Munich Airport has yet again been voted Europe’s best airport in the World Airport Awards…
Munich Airport has yet again been voted Europe’s best airport in the World Airport Awards. This marks the sixth time Munich has received this honor, which it won last year and four years in a row from 2005 to 2008. In the worldwide rankings, Munich Airport matched the outstanding number four position it achieved in the previous year. This was the outcome of the latest survey by the London-based independent aviation research institute Skytrax, based on the replies of over 11 million passengers from more than 100 countries. The award was presented to FMG, the Munich Airport operating company, at a ceremony in Copenhagen yesterday evening on the occasion of the Passenger Terminal international trade fair.
Among the reasons for Munich Airport’s popularity cited by Edward Plaisted, the director of the Skytrax Institute, is the “high standard of comfort in the terminals and the special Bavarian hospitality”. He added that the key to success in Munich is the excellent quality and reliability in evidence everywhere, which Munich Airport achieves in all operational areas.
Dr. Michael Kerkloh, the CEO of Munich Airport, was pleased to receive this prestigious award “We’re proud that we have successfully defended our title. The World Airport Awards mean a lot to us because it is actually the customers who decide on the winners. With more than 11 million participants, achieving this kind of ranking makes a real statement.”
In the World Airport Awards, passengers rated more than 240 international airports as well as numerous airlines. They assessed airports under 40 different criteria, including quality of handling and services, staff courtesy and efficiency, shopping and leisure amenities and transit facilities. The individual results for the various categories are due to be released soon.
