The new light, modern and airy building has been designed with a number of green initiatives. It will be just a two-minute walk via a covered walkway from the new London Southend Airport Raiilway Station.
The whole terminal has been planned to give customers a swift, hassle-free journey from Check-In to Boarding, with minimal walking distances a key consideration.
Queuing time at Check-In will be kept to a minimum thanks to six desks. From there, passengers will be able to enjoy panoramic views of the airport’s ‘apron’ (the area where loading, unloading and maintaining aircraft takes place) and will feature a selection of food and retail outlets. Prior to take-off, it will be just a quick stroll from the Departure Lounge to the plane.
“The terminal is coming along really well, with all the steel in place now,” says London Southend Airport’s Managing Director, Alastair Welch adding, “This is an exciting time for South end, with all our plans for development starting to come to fruition. The airport’s superb new railway station is almost complete and ready to go fully operational, the new control tower is now in the final phase of completion with work on the runway extension and new airport hotel due to start later this year. 2011 is when London Southend Airport finally goes on the international air travel map as a fast, friendly and efficient new gateway to London.”
