The Airports Authority of India and Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, opened a new civil air terminal for international passengers at Chandigarh Airport in the state of Punjab. Passenger growth has increased from 69 million in 2004-05 to 188 million in 2014-15 with a 12 percent growth rate per year. The Airport’s exceptional growth prompted building of a new international terminal on an area of 53,400 sq. metres with a peak hour handling capacity of 1600 passengers.
