London Luton Airport has reported a 15.7 percent increase in passenger traffic during May 2015 breaking the milestone of a million passengers before the start of the busy summer period.
The increase has been assisted by the launch of four new routes to Essasouira in Morocco, Split and Bodrum via EasyJet and Naples with Thomson. A further three routes are due to open in June with Wizz Air to Lasi and Constanta, Romania and Ohrid in Macedonia.
To sustain demand, London Luton is embarking on a £100 million redevelopment and investment programme to transform the Airport. The project will increase annual capacity from 12 million to 18 million passengers by 2026, as well as delivering upgrades to the Airport’s facilities. Plans include redesigning the terminal, doubling retail space and implementing a new executive lounge. Externally, the Airport will receive upgrades to transport links, including better road access to the M1, new car parking facilities, a remodelled bus and coach interchange and improved rail links.
Nick Barton, CEO of London Luton Airport, commented: “Last month was our busiest May ever. As we move into the busy summer season we are committed to ensuring that passengers enjoy the best possible experience – our £100m redevelopment project will help us to deliver that.”
