HKIA implements various measures against the Saola typhoon.
Flight operations at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) have been affected by Super Typhoon Saola in early September 2023. Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) has been working closely with all relevant parties to implement various contingency measures.
Thanks to the tremendous support from airlines, relevant government departments and business partners, HKIA maintained smooth flight operation on morning of 01 September 2023. The Airport Emergency Centre has been activated. A total of 460 flights were cancelled for the whole day.
Due to the severe impact of Super Typhoon Saola, flight resumption tomorrow remains uncertain. Members of the airport community are working closely together to formulate recovery plans in order to ensure an orderly resumption of flight operation.
The airport is staying vigilant to ensure all facilities are secured and ready for flight resumption. Additional manpower has also been deployed to assist passengers at the terminal. Restaurants and convenience stores at HKIA have also extended their operating hours and stocked up on extra food and beverages.
AAHK advises passengers to check with their airlines for the latest flight information, and to proceed to the airport only when their seats and flight time have been confirmed.
Passengers can also check with HKIA’s website or “My HKG” mobile app for latest flight information.
