Two major international successes for Aéroports de Paris Group

Aéroports de Paris Group is consolidating its international positions thanks to its subsidiary ADP Ingénierie (ADPI) winning a big architectural competition in China to design the new Beijing airport. The Group also recorded the signing of the share purchase agreement by TAV Airports for the acquisition of a strategic stake in the share capital of Istanbul’s second airport, Sabiha Gökçen.

ADP Ingénierie (ADPI) wins the competition to design Terminal 1 at the new Daxing Beijing International Airport

ADP Ingénierie (ADPI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Aérooports de Paris, was officially declared the winner of the international competition, organized by Beijing New Airport Construction Headquarters (BNAH), for the design of Terminal 1 at Beijing’s New Daxing Airport. Launched in July 2011, the competition for the design of Terminal 1, allowed the Chinese client to receive and analyse – through a long and rigorous selection process – the proposals of the most prestigious architectural and engineering firms worldwide shortlisted for this project.

Located at Daxing, south of Beijing (60 km from Tiananmen Square), the new Beijing International Airport will ultimately boast seven runways and see over 100 million passengers pass through it annually, making it one of the largest airports in the world.

With an area of 700,000 sqm and a five-kilometre-long façade, Terminal 1 of the future Beijing Airport will, on its opening—scheduled for the end of 2018—have an annual capacity of 45 million passengers, extendable to 72 million passengers. It will be equipped with 872 aircraft contact stands

TAV Airports acquires 40% of shares in Sabiha Gökçen, Istanbul’s second airport

TAV Airports, 38%-owned by Aéroports de Paris, signed on 15 September a share purchase agreement for the acquisition of the 40% of shares owned by Turkish group Limak in the share capital of Sabiha Gökçen, Istanbul’s second airport. Following several weeks devoted to lifting the suspensive conditions of this transaction which include, in particular, the right of first refusal, TAV Airports and Malaysia Airports will exercise joint control over the management of Istanbul’s second Airport.

Inaugurated in 2001, to decongest Istanbul Atatürk and located on the Asian side of the Bosphorus, Sabiha Gökçen Airport is mainly used by European low-cost airlines, Turkish Airlines, and serves as the hub for Turkish carrier Pegasus. This airport has seen a steady increase in traffic since its opening and last year handled about 19 million passengers. It has seen the strongest growth of all airports in Europe over the last five years.

Thus, Aéroports de Paris’s partner has made a major strategic acquisition. It strengthens its presence in Istanbul beyond the end of the current concession of Istanbul Atatürk Airport (January 2021) and will benefit from the dynamism of Istanbul’s air traffic until 2030.
