The Department for Transport announced on 8th July 2014 that they were stepping up some of the aviation security measures for passengers flying into or out of the UK. In line with U.S. advice, passengers on some routes into and out of the UK may now also be required to show that electronic devices in their hand luggage are powered up, or face not being allowed to bring the device on to the aircraft.

Passengers flying into or out of the UK are advised to make sure electronic devices with a battery – such as mobile and smart phones, Mp3 players, laptops, iPads and cameras – that are being carried in their hand luggage are charged before they travel.

The Department for Transport did not comment in detail on the routes affected but said it will be working with the aviation industry to minimise disruption as far as possible.

The UK has some of the most robust aviation security measures in the world, and will continue to take the necessary steps to ensure that public safety is maintained.
