Bordeaux Airport saw an increase of 6.9% in May 2014 compared to May 2013, with over 455,000 passengers during the month. Just before the start of the high summer season which will be boosted by a number of new flights from Bordeaux, international scheduled flights already drove growth with 30.6% more passengers in May.

Scheduled international flights boosted growth in May, showing a rise of 30.6% and 40,000 more passengers than in 2013.

The introduction of competition on certain routes continues to boost growth: Marrakech up 66.8% with the arrival of easyJet in April, alongside JetairFly and Royal Air Maroc, Amsterdam up 58.6% with two additional daily flights with KLM and the arrival of easyJet in March, Geneva (easyJet and Etihad Regional in April) up 12.2%, and Lisbon (easyJet and TAP) up 28%. London, the number one international destination from Bordeaux, saw an overall increase of 32.7% including the 3 London airports, thanks to additional flights with easyJet to Gatwick and Ryanair’s new flight to Stansted. Destinations in Italy are gaining momentum: Venice +57% (Volotea), Bologna +7.7% (Ryanair), Rome +8% (Hop! and Ryanair). Volotea’s new flight to Naples at the end of the month and the earlier start to the season for Florence compared to last year should also be noted.

New destinations launched in April-May have also contributed to growth by creating new passenger flows: Brussels with easyJet (4,600 passengers in May), Heraklion with Aegean (2,800 passengers), Palma with Volotea (1,800 passengers), Birmingham with Flybe (900 passengers) and Zurich with Helvetic Airways (400 passengers).

Domestic scheduled traffic represented 238,400 passengers, which showed a decrease of 4.4% on May 2013, and has remained stable (+0.5%) since the beginning of the year. Corsica was one of the top French destinations in May with +15.8% and 9,900 passengers, with the launch of the Calvi and Figari flights with Volotea in April. The results for Paris were the opposite. Charles de Gaulle was down by 13.3%, in line with a decrease in the number of available seats (-18%). Orly remained stable (+1%) as a destination. It should be noted that flights to Dijon were stopped on 3 June, due to the closure of the airport there.

Low-cost traffic continues to increase (+25.7%) with nearly 200,000 passengers in May 2014.
