In July 2013, some 5.7 million passengers passed through Frankfurt Airport (FRA). This represents a decline of 0.7 percent compared to July 2012, which was the record month in the history of Frankfurt Airport.
The changing political situation in North Africa and the Middle East caused an unusually severe slump in the respective air traffic markets. These exceptional circumstances prevented a positive monthly result, even though all other non-European regions recorded positive growth.
With 43,279 takeoffs and landings, the number of aircraft movements at Frankfurt Airport remained unchanged from July 2012. Cargo tonnage stood at nearly 179,500 metric tons, a drop of 0.6 percent over the previous year. The accumulated maximum takeoff weights decreased by 1.1 percent to nearly 2.6 million metric tons.
In total, more than 11.9 million passengers (up 1.2 percent) were served at Fraport’s majority-owned airports. Growth driver remains Lima Airport (LIM), Peru, with an increase of 11.7 percent. The Turkish holiday destination Antalya (AYT) recorded over 3.8 million passengers, almost 1 percent more than in July 2012. The airports of Varna (VAR) and Burgas (BOJ) on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast recorded, combined, over one million passengers, an increase of 1 percent.
