For much of the past two decades, McCarran International Airport operated in an almost non-stop growth mode to stay ahead of the surging number of travellers drawn to Las Vegas. It began with the launch of The Mirage in 1989, the first of many casino megaresorts, including MGM Grand, which at the time of opening in 1993 was the world’s largest hotel, and the Bellagio, whose famous fountains have become a Las Vegas icon featured in multiple blockbusters. As the years went on, Las Vegas enhanced its status as the ‘Entertainment Capital of the World’ with world-renowned shows – including Cirque du Soleil, musicals straight from Broadway, and headline comedians selling out showrooms across the city. And year upon year, an increasing number of those seeking all that Vegas has to offer came and went through McCarran’s gates.
