Brussels South Charleroi Airport welcomed a total of 701,236 passengers in August. This represents an increase of 19,2% compared to the 588,150 passengers registered in the same month last year.
This significant growth is the result of the flight frequency increase on 24 destinations during the summer months, a higher load factor compared to the rest of the year and the addition of 10 new destinations launched by Jetairfly & Ryanair this summer.
Due to limitations of its terminal building, the airport applies since 2011 a strategy of manageable growth. The airlines operating at Brussels South Charleroi Airport have done a great job to schedule the majority of the extra summer flights during off-peak hours thus enabling the August traffic increase.
Passenger figures are expected to decrease as of September, since the holiday traffic will end and several summer destinations will not be operated during the winter schedule. The first new route to be launched is Ljubljana, which will be operated twice a week by Wizzair as of 29 October.
