A|D|S comments below on the overall aim of the Budget, changes to aviation taxation, science investment, defence spending, skills and education funding, support to small, innovative and manufacturing businesses and the Green Investment Bank.

A|D|S today publishes a summary and forecast for the UK-based aerospace sector from its Chairman, Ian Godden. Speaking in advance of the UK Government’s Budget statement on 23 March 2011 Mr Godden seeks to demonstrate the growth and wealth-creation potential of UK aerospace.

A|D|S today publishes a report looking at the contribution of the UKs Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul and Logistics (MRO&L) sector, which makes up around a third of the countrys aerospace sector that is number one in Europe and second only to the US globally in terms of market share. The sector is worth £6 billion per year to the UK economy and employs 30,000 people across the country in around 450 companies.

Hugo Rosemont, security policy adviser for A|D|S, the UK’s AeroSpace, Defence and Security trade organisation today addresses the Counter Terror Expo at London Olympia examining how the current state of the economy affects national security. The speech will propose potential solutions given the current economic climate and will also highlight that more could be done to harness the economic benefits of British-made security equipment exports. It will highlight that future efficiency savings or spending cuts could impact negatively on the UK’s national security capability.

Issue 2 2010 / 5 April 2010 /
Following on from the successful “Arrivals Code of Practice”, UK aerospace industry experts from the airlines, airports, air traffic controllers, CAA and DfT chaired by A|D|S, have been working towards a similar Code of Practice for Ground Operations and Departing Aircraft.
A ‘Departures and Ground Operations Code of Practice’ has been developed by experts in the UK from airports, airlines, the UK air navigation service provider (NATS), CAA, DfT as well as the aerospace manufacturer’s trade organisation, A|D|S, who took on the running of this project. The aim of this exercise was to try to define what current ‘best practice’ looked like and then attempt to promote this across the whole industry. One positive aspect has been that, along the way, the group has helped to dispel some myths and misconceptions, both at the UK and at the international level via ICAO.

Reacting to the High Court judgement on the third runway at Heathrow Matthew Knowles, spokesman for A|D|S, the UK’s aerospace, defence and security trade organisation, said “The UK aviation industry has established the Sustainable Aviation initiative and its CO2 Roadmap demonstrates how, through the use of new technology, the industry will meet the predicted threefold rise in passenger demand to 2050 while simultaneously reducing its carbon dioxide emissions back to 2000 levels. Therefore, the case for the third runway at Heathrow is still strong, especially when the economic and employment benefits for both the whole country and the region around the airport are also considered.
