Brisbane Airport has unveiled its new northern security screening point for Qantas passengers, featuring advanced CT technology that speeds up screening and enhances convenience.

After two years of construction, Brisbane Airport’s (BNE) Domestic Terminal has reached a key milestone in its security screening upgrade, with passengers now set to experience the first phase of the transformation.
From 5:00am on Tuesday, 28 October, the airport’s new northern screening point will open, offering a smoother and more efficient process for Qantas passengers. The facility includes five new security lanes equipped with Rapiscan CT (Computed Tomography) Standard 3 screening technology, which enhances security while allowing passengers to keep laptops and aerosols inside their bags.
The lanes also include larger trays for personal items and an automatic tray return system to streamline screening.
“We’ve been in testing mode over the past week as our teams get up to speed with the new equipment, and we’re incredibly excited to see this brand-new screening point open to passengers from Tuesday,” said Stacey Pollard, Brisbane Airport’s Head of Terminal Operations.
“The fact that passengers will be able to leave laptops and aerosols in their bags will make a real difference and remove one of the biggest frustrations for frequent travellers. We’re grateful for passengers who have been patient over the past couple of years and delighted that they’re about to start experiencing the benefits of the Future BNE transformation.”
Two lanes in Qantas Premium Entry are already equipped with the same Standard 3 technology.
Work is also nearing completion on a new central mezzanine screening area, featuring ten additional lanes. The new space, expected to open before Christmas, will provide a direct route for passengers travelling without checked baggage, enabling them to move from the Skywalk through security to their departure gate on one level.
Brisbane Airport is also upgrading its International Terminal to include Standard 3 screening technology before the end of the year, as part of the airport’s $5 billion Future BNE transformation programme.
