Toronto Pearson satisfaction rises, survey finds

Passenger satisfaction at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) continues to climb, according to new survey results that also point to strong public support for investments intended to modernise Canada’s largest airport and strengthen the country’s economic competitiveness.

A survey by Abacus Data, conducted among 2,000 Ontario adults, found that 91 per cent of passengers who expressed a view were satisfied with their most recent trip through Toronto Pearson, with satisfaction levels continuing to trend upward. Passengers gave the highest ratings to the terminal’s overall look and feel (87 per cent), cleanliness (86 per cent), and ease of getting around the airport (84 per cent), while also reporting positive experiences with staff helpfulness and the airport’s shops, restaurants and services.

The results come as Toronto Pearson advances Pearson LIFT, a multi-year programme to modernise and expand the airport and support long-term demand for travel, trade and cargo. A separate national survey by Pollara Strategic Insights found satisfaction with Pearson has risen from 76 per cent in 2023 to 89 per cent in the most recent reporting period, with passengers who had travelled through the airport most recently reporting the strongest impressions.

Karen Mazurkewich, Vice-President, Stakeholder Relations and Communications at Toronto Pearson, said: “These findings reflect the progress Toronto Pearson has made improving the experience of passengers travelling through our airport, and the incredible employees that work here, creating exceptional service at every touchpoint. The airport will continue to enhance passenger experience through its new capital investment programme, Pearson LIFT, which will take us to new levels of service.”

The Pollara survey, conducted among 2,725 adult Canadians, also found that 57 per cent of Canadians flew in the past year, with Toronto Pearson remaining the country’s busiest airport by a wide margin. Among Canadian air travellers, 49 per cent had used Toronto Pearson in the past 12 months, while 72 per cent of those who had travelled through the airport in the past 90 days held a positive impression of it.

Dan Arnold, Chief Strategy Officer at Pollara Strategic Insights, said: “The data shows direct experience continues to be one of Pearson’s strongest reputation builders. Travellers who have used the airport recently are more positive, and the public is increasingly connecting airport investment with benefits such as jobs, trade, supply chains and a better travel experience.”

The survey also pointed to a link, in the public’s mind, between airport investment, choice and affordability. Around three-quarters of Pearson travellers said adding more airlines would make air travel through the airport more affordable, while 69 per cent of Canadians agreed that investment in Pearson’s expansion and upgrades would create new opportunities for Canadian businesses, generate more jobs in the Greater Toronto Area and contribute significantly to the economy.

The Pollara survey was conducted online from 24 June to 14 July 2026, with a margin of error of plus or minus 1.9 percentage points, 19 times out of 20. The Abacus survey was conducted online from 8 to 11 September 2026, with a comparable margin of error of plus or minus 2.2 percentage points.
