Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport has introduced an off site baggage service to reduce terminal congestion and improve passenger flow.

Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) has launched a new off site baggage collection service designed to reduce terminal congestion and ease pressure during peak passenger periods.

Now live at the world’s busiest airport, the service allows passengers to hand over their luggage from home, hotels, or other locations before travelling to the airport. Bags are securely collected, tracked end to end, and delivered to ATL ahead of the passenger’s arrival.

By shifting part of the baggage journey outside the terminal, the service helps reduce queues at bag drop counters, lowers pressure on airport infrastructure and staff, and supports smoother passenger journeys during periods of high demand. The solution is designed to complement existing airline and airport processes rather than replace them.

The service has been developed by reclaim in collaboration with SITA and has been operational since December. The deployment supports ATL’s long term approach to managing growth by working with new technology partners, enabling the airport to handle rising passenger volumes without adding new counters or building additional facilities.

For passengers, the benefits are immediate. Travellers arrive at the airport hands free, move more easily through crowded terminal areas, and avoid managing luggage during the busiest parts of their journey, while flying as they normally would.

Shawn Gregor, President of the Americas at SITA, said that handling baggage earlier in the journey gives airports a practical way to manage peak demand without adding complexity. He noted that airports function as interconnected ecosystems and that the solution supports scale while maintaining operational stability.

Akmann Van-Mary, CEO and Founder of reclaim, said the partnership ensures the service fits naturally within the airport environment, from daily operations to safe and reliable baggage handling. He added that the model gives airports confidence to adopt new approaches that passengers genuinely value.

As global passenger volumes continue to rise, ATL’s adoption of an off site baggage model demonstrates how modular, low risk solutions can relieve day to day operational pressure while supporting long term change.
