Manchester Airport has approved plans to enlarge the Terminal 3 departure lounge by about 2,000 square metres, adding space, natural light and new retail units.

A project to increase the size of the departure lounge in Terminal 3 at Manchester Airport (MAN) by more than a third has been given the green light, with completion scheduled for 2028.
The multimillion-pound scheme will add about 2,000 square metres of floorspace. The additional space will provide extra room for passengers, increase natural light levels, add seating and accommodate a range of new retail units.
Terminal 3 improvements build on earlier changes
The expansion builds on recent improvements to the terminal, which now serves the airport’s Ryanair passengers exclusively. These include the opening of the Sporting Chance bar and the creation of a new entrance and security area. A new Italian restaurant, Terracotta, will open in the coming weeks.
Terminals 1 and 3 are joined, so parts of Terminal 1, including its security hall and entrance, have been incorporated into Terminal 3. The new plans will use space that was once part of the landside operation in Terminal 3 but has been out of use since late last year.
Manchester Airport has invested around £1.5bn over the last decade in the complete redevelopment of Terminal 2, which now serves around 75 per cent of the airport’s passengers and allowed the old Terminal 1 to close.
Manchester Airport Managing Director Chris Woodroofe said:
“We’ve completely redeveloped our award-winning Terminal 2 through our £1.5bn investment and now we’re turning our attention to Terminal 3. We’ve already made significant changes but now we’re ready to accelerate that work and provide more space and facilities for our Ryanair passengers.”
Next steps will include a competitive tender to bring new retailers into the added space. Details of the process will be announced in the coming weeks, alongside further information on the project.
