Vienna Airport achieved its strongest cargo performance in 2025 with record volumes, boosted by long haul services, e-commerce shipments and pharmaceutical logistics growth

Vienna Airport (VIE) achieved the strongest cargo performance in its history in 2025, handling a record 313,763 tonnes of air freight. This represents growth of 5.3% compared with 2024 and underlines the airport’s importance as a logistics hub for Central and Eastern Europe.
Key drivers included the expansion of long haul services, which added additional belly hold capacity, as well as strong growth in e-commerce and pharmaceuticals. The Vienna Pharma Handling Centre also set a new all-time high, increasing volumes by 6.4% compared with the previous year.
“A strong cargo sector is a key success factor for airports. Air freight secures global supply chains and promotes economic growth. Vienna Airport plays a central role in this context—as a logistics hub and as the most important gateway for air cargo to Central and Eastern Europe. With global airlines at the location, a specialised service offering and a strong team, we are very well positioned,” said Julian Jäger, joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport.
Michael Zach, Senior Vice President Ground Handling and Cargo Operations, added: “In air cargo, all processes must interlock seamlessly to ensure that shipments are handled efficiently and quickly at all times. Behind this record result is a strong team performance, with service quality for our customers as the top priority. Traditionally a leading transhipment hub for goods from Asia, the Vienna Cargo Hub benefited particularly in 2025 from growing volumes to North America. In 2026, we naturally aim to build on this positive development and are confident that we can achieve this together with our customers and partners.”
Imports reached 167,568 tonnes, up 2.8% compared with 2024, driven by e-commerce growth from Asia. Exports totalled 146,195 tonnes, increasing by 8.4% over the previous year, with Asia and the United States as key markets.
Vienna Airport’s strategic location, 24/7 operational readiness, ten Category F aircraft stands and integration with Europe’s road feeder network contribute to efficient cargo handling. The airport plans to build on this momentum in 2026, continuing to support both import and export volumes for Central and Eastern Europe.
