Glasgow Airport (GLA) is celebrating its 60th anniversary with the launch of an exclusive single cask whisky created in partnership with Ian Macleod Distillers and travel retailer Avolta.

Glasgow Airport 60th anniversary whisky release

Released exclusively through World Duty Free, the limited edition Glengoyne Highland Single Malt Single Cask #1789 has been created to commemorate six decades of the airport’s operations and its connection to the city of Glasgow.

Only 248 bottles of the whisky have been produced, making it a highly collectable release for enthusiasts and travellers. The expression has been matured in a 12 year old first fill bourbon barrel and bottled unchill filtered at 59% ABV.

The whisky launch coincides with The Whisky Collective, Avolta’s annual global whisky festival held across its World Duty Free stores. To further mark the anniversary, the bottle features a bespoke Glasgow skyline design incorporating recognisable landmarks including the Duke of Wellington statue, the SEC Armadillo and Glengoyne Distillery.

Located just 15 miles north of Glasgow, Glengoyne is one of Scotland’s best known Highland distilleries and ranks among the country’s most visited whisky destinations.

Aisha Dad said: “Glasgow Airport’s 60th anniversary is a meaningful moment to celebrate with a whisky that is rooted in Scotland and connected to the city.”

Craig Norton added: “We’re incredibly proud to bring this exclusive Glengoyne Single Cask to our customers as part of Glasgow Airport’s 60th anniversary celebrations.”

William Ovens described the release as a unique opportunity for travellers to purchase a rare whisky that celebrates the long standing relationship between Glengoyne and Glasgow.

The anniversary edition highlights how airports continue to use travel retail experiences to celebrate local culture, heritage and regional identity while creating exclusive products for passengers.
