TSA expands PreCheck Touchless ID

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced a new partnership with Google Wallet that expands access to TSA PreCheck Touchless ID, offering eligible passengers a faster and more seamless airport security experience.

Google Wallet becomes the first digital wallet to integrate with the programme, allowing travellers to verify their identity using facial recognition technology without presenting physical identification documents at dedicated TSA PreCheck screening lanes.

The new feature is available at 65 airports across the United States and can be used with more than 100 participating TSA PreCheck airline partners.

Faster identity verification

Passengers using the service first check in with a participating airline before adding their boarding pass to Google Wallet. Eligible travellers are then prompted to opt in, authorising Google Wallet to securely share their digital identification and boarding pass information with TSA.

Once verified, a TSA PreCheck Touchless ID indicator is automatically added to the passenger’s digital boarding pass, allowing them to use designated touchless screening lanes.

Travellers also continue to have the option of manually enrolling through participating airlines by storing a valid passport within their airline profile.

Expanding the digital passenger journey

Shelu Patel, TSA Modernisation Acting Chief Innovation Officer, said: “TSA under President Trump and Secretary Mullin is fully dedicated to enhancing the passenger experience through advanced technology and strategic partnerships.”

He added: “Our collaboration with Google helps our trusted TSA PreCheck travellers enjoy the fastest route through airport security.”

P.J. Linarducci, Vice President of Product Management for Consumer Payments at Google, said: “We’re excited that Google Wallet technology is helping make TSA airport checkpoints faster and easier for travellers.”

The partnership forms part of TSA’s wider efforts to modernise airport security by introducing digital technologies that improve passenger processing while maintaining security standards during periods of increasing travel demand.
