This week’s picture of the week highlights Manchester Airport revealing the Airport Dad as Britain’s most common travel personality through a new passenger survey.

Manchester Airport (MAN) has revealed that the “Airport Dad” is officially Britain’s most common travel personality, with new research showing that 42% of people see themselves as the organiser who keeps passports safe, checks departure boards and makes sure no one misses their flight.

The findings form part of the airport’s new Holiday Mode: Activated campaign, which encourages passengers to embrace the holiday experience from the moment they arrive rather than waiting until they reach their destination.
The research identified four distinct airport personalities, with the Airport Dad topping the list. The second most common was the “Switch-Off Specialist”, followed by the “Terminal Foodie” and the “Shopaholic”, reflecting the increasingly varied ways travellers use airport spaces before boarding.
According to the survey of 2,000 Britons, 13% believe their holiday begins as soon as they enter the airport, while nearly a quarter enjoy food or drink before their flight and 14% see shopping as an essential part of their pre-departure routine.
The results also highlight changing passenger behaviour, with 42% typically arriving at least three hours before departure. During that time, many spend their time people watching, relaxing with a coffee or browsing retail stores, underlining how airports have evolved into destinations offering more than simply a place to catch a flight.
The campaign also introduces an interactive Airport Personality Quiz, allowing travellers to discover which category best matches their own habits while exploring the airport’s dining, shopping and relaxation options.
The initiative builds on the transformation of Terminal 2, where the £1.3 billion redevelopment has more than doubled the size of the departure lounge. New additions include the Great Northern Market food hall, a premium boutique mall, an airport-first Fever-Tree cocktail and champagne bar, alongside retailers such as LEGO and Pandora.
Richard Jackson said: “Everyone experiences the airport in their own unique way. Some people are counting down to boarding from the minute they arrive, while others get straight into holiday mode with a meal or shopping.”
To celebrate the campaign, passengers can also enter a summer competition with prizes tailored to each airport personality, from shopping and dining experiences to a dream holiday.
