Aeroporti di Roma has opened a new smart workplace at Rome Fiumicino, expanding office capacity for airlines and airport businesses.
Aeroporti di Roma (ADR), part of the Mundys Group, has inaugurated Open – FCO Smart Workplace, a new office complex at Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) designed to support airlines, airport operators and businesses while reinforcing the airport’s position as one of Europe’s leading aviation hubs.
Located opposite Terminal 1, the 16,000m² development expands the airport’s commercial infrastructure and forms part of ADR’s long-term strategy to strengthen the airport’s role as an integrated business and transport hub. The facility is expected to accommodate up to 600 people across 70 offices and 35 meeting rooms.
Several airlines, including ITA Airways, Emirates, American Airlines, Alaska Air, Delta Air Lines and Air Canada, will relocate office operations into the new building, alongside ground handling companies and car rental providers operating at the airport.
Smart workplace supports future airport growth
Designed to provide flexible working environments, the complex includes modular office space, shared work areas, conference facilities and dedicated spaces for meetings, workshops and corporate events. While developed primarily for the aviation sector, ADR said the facility will also be available to businesses seeking meeting and networking space close to the airport.
The building has been designed to achieve LEED certification and incorporates a range of sustainability measures. These include low-impact construction materials, façades designed to reduce solar heat gain, a 67kWp photovoltaic system, low-energy LED lighting, a Building Management System to monitor energy consumption and space utilisation, and a dual water network that enables industrial water to be used for building services.
During construction, artificial intelligence-powered video surveillance technology was deployed to improve safety by monitoring work activities and identifying unauthorised access or failures to use personal protective equipment.
The inauguration also featured the unveiling of Continuum, a site-specific artwork by Italian artist Michela Picchi, reflecting ADR’s wider commitment to integrating art and culture throughout the passenger and workplace environment.
