Miami International Airport (MIA) partnered with Miami-Dade County Animal Services Department to host its first ever pet adoption day inside the airport terminal in celebration of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day.

The initiative featured two adoption sessions where travellers and airport employees had the opportunity to meet adoptable dogs, learn about the adoption process and speak directly with animal services staff about pet ownership support available across Miami-Dade County.

The event aimed to raise awareness around animal welfare while using the airport’s high passenger traffic to connect rescue animals with potential adopters in a non traditional setting.

Daniella Levine Cava said the partnership demonstrated how collaboration between county departments can create innovative community focused initiatives while helping animals find loving homes.

The adoption day proved highly successful, resulting in the adoption of six cats and five dogs. Following the positive response, discussions are already underway about making the initiative a recurring event at the airport.

By combining MIA’s global visibility with the county’s animal welfare services, the event highlighted Miami-Dade County’s commitment to community engagement and public service innovation.
