Ontario International Airport has opened an expanded security checkpoint in Terminal 2, with similar upgrades planned for Terminal 4.
Ontario International Airport (ONT) has opened a significantly expanded passenger security checkpoint in Terminal 2, introducing additional screening capacity and upgraded technology to improve the passenger journey.
The project marks one of the airport’s largest investments in passenger processing since returning to local ownership in 2016. Airport officials said the development has been designed to accommodate continued passenger growth while maintaining efficient security screening and terminal operations.
Since returning to local ownership, Ontario International Airport has grown from approximately 4.3 million annual passengers to more than seven million, making it one of the fastest-growing commercial airports in the United States.
Security upgrades improve passenger processing
The new Terminal 2 checkpoint includes two additional security screening lanes, increasing capacity during busy travel periods. To create the extra space, the airport relocated the secure exit corridor to improve passenger circulation throughout the terminal.
The modernised facility also incorporates advanced security technologies, including enhanced monitoring systems, upgraded document verification equipment, improved closed-circuit television systems and new digital information displays to help passengers navigate the screening process more efficiently.
Similar improvements are scheduled for Terminal 4, where an additional screening lane and a new secure exit corridor will further increase processing capacity.
Alan D. Wapner, President of the Ontario International Airport Authority Board of Commissioners and Ontario Mayor Pro Tem, said the investment reflects the airport’s long-term strategy to prepare for future growth while providing travellers with a safe, efficient and convenient airport experience.
