VINCI Airports begins a US$250 million terminal project and opens an alternate runway, enhancing passenger experience, operational efficiency, and air connectivity in the Dominican Republic.

Las Americas International Airport (SDQ), part of the VINCI Airports network, inaugurated a new cargo warehouse in a ceremony attended by the President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinader, alongside Dominican authorities. The event also marked the official start of construction on a new passenger terminal and confirmed the operational readiness of the alternate runway 18-36.
VINCI Airports, through Aerodom, has begun work on a new passenger terminal at Las Americas International Airport, representing an investment of over US$250 million. Expected to be completed by 2028, the terminal will expand the airport’s capacity by four million passengers per year and set a new benchmark in Dominican airport infrastructure. The design will be modern and sustainable, aligned with VINCI Airports’ global standards, and will operate alongside the existing terminal. This development reflects the Innovation pillar of VINCI Concessions, incorporating advanced designs and technologies to enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency.
The alternate runway 18-36 has been made operational by adapting the former taxiway Juliet. Executed by Aerodom in coordination with the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC), the project strengthens AILA’s resilience and operational capacity by ensuring uninterrupted air connectivity during upgrades to the main runway 17-35. Technical studies, structural improvements, runway lighting installation, safety zone levelling, and new signage were completed in full compliance with national and international regulations. This effort supports the Safety pillar, ensuring secure and efficient air operations.
“Aerodom and VINCI Airports are unwavering in their commitment to the development of the Dominican Republic. Each investment we make is a step forward in strengthening airport infrastructure, driving economic growth, and ensuring safe, efficient, and continuous air connectivity,” said Mónika Infante, CEO of Aerodom.
Through these initiatives, VINCI Airports reaffirms its global expertise and its contribution to the logistical, economic, and airport development of the Dominican Republic.
