Jersey Airport exits special regulatory oversight following operational leadership changes and improved performance

Jersey Airport (JER) is no longer under ‘Special Attention’ from the aviation regulator, Ports of Jersey has confirmed. The additional oversight from the Office of the Director of Civil Aviation (ODCA) was introduced at the end of last year when the airport strengthened its operational leadership team.

Enhanced oversight is a standard measure for regulators during periods of significant change, allowing new leadership teams to settle into their roles. After several months of audits, reporting, and positive engagement, the regulator confirmed that the extra level of supervision is no longer required.

“We have a highly professional team, with a wide variety of skills, that works to ensure the airport operates smoothly. They include firefighters, security officers, air traffic controllers and our customer experience team, whose focus every day is on helping our passengers to enjoy faster, easier and friendlier travel experiences.

“Jersey Airport complies with all aviation regulations and safe, secure operations will always be our most important priority. But no company can stand still, and last year we restructured our operational management team at the airport to keep pace with the changing requirements of 21st century travellers.

“We have exciting plans to create an airport that every Islander can be proud of – built to last, and ready for the future.”

Special Attention means increased engagement, additional reporting, and sometimes extra audits to ensure standards are maintained during periods of change. Jersey Airport remained fully compliant and operational throughout, and the regulator has now returned to the usual level of oversight.

Passengers may have already noticed improvements, including short security queues with 99 per cent clearing security in under 15 minutes, faster baggage delivery with over 90 per cent of bags reaching carousels within 20 minutes, positive feedback for Special Assistance services, and joined-up teams combining customer service, security, and operations to enhance the travel experience.

Later this year, work will begin on redeveloping the Departures Lounge, representing a major investment in passenger experience and a key step in modernising the airport for the future. Jersey Airport continues to work closely with the ODCA, the UK Civil Aviation Authority, and the European Aviation Safety Agency to maintain safe and efficient operations.
