Dallas Fort Worth International Airport has opened nine new gates as part of a wider Terminal C redevelopment programme.

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) has opened nine new gates as part of the continuing redevelopment of Terminal C, marking a major milestone in the airport’s long-term expansion programme.
The new facilities have been delivered in partnership with American Airlines and form part of the airport’s wider $12 billion DFW Forward capital improvement programme.
DFW Airport expands Terminal C capacity
Terminal C is the airport’s busiest terminal and is used exclusively by American Airlines. The facility is currently undergoing a complete transformation aimed at increasing capacity, modernising infrastructure and enhancing the passenger experience.
The newly opened area includes five fully rebuilt gates and four entirely new gates, creating approximately 115,000 square feet of additional terminal space.
Airport officials said the expansion has been designed to support future passenger growth while offering travellers an early glimpse of the redesigned Terminal C experience.
The new facilities feature electronic boarding gates, upgraded passenger amenities, expanded seating areas, new concession spaces, improved wayfinding and additional charging facilities.
Chris McLaughlin said the project demonstrates how years of planning and investment are now becoming visible to passengers as the airport prepares for a busy summer travel period and major international events.
The gate expansion was delivered using modular construction methods, continuing the airport’s use of innovative building techniques first introduced during previous terminal development projects.
Six modular units were constructed and fitted with mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems before being transported across the airfield and installed in their final location.
Airport leaders said this approach helped accelerate construction while minimising operational disruption.
Infrastructure programme continues across airport campus
The Terminal C project forms part of a broader redevelopment strategy that includes reconstruction of the adjacent parking garage to support future gate growth and passenger demand.
DFW also reported significant progress on other infrastructure upgrades, including major improvements along International Parkway, one of the airport’s primary access routes.
Recent works have replaced historic left-hand exits serving Terminals A, B and C with new right-hand exits designed to improve navigation and traffic flow.
The project included installation of more than 215 structural beams, nearly 4,700 feet of bridge infrastructure and more than 18 million pounds of structural materials.
Airport officials said the majority of construction activity was carried out overnight to minimise disruption to passengers and airport operations.
The latest developments represent the first new gates delivered under the DFW Forward programme and are expected to play an important role in supporting future growth as passenger numbers continue to rise.
