Adani Airport City Limited (AACL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), has announced a major airport city development programme that will transform six airports across India into integrated commercial and transport hubs.

The first phase of the initiative will see more than ₹20,000 crore invested across developments covering over 655 acres in five states. Around 22 million square feet of mixed-use space will be created at Mumbai Airport (BOM), Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI), Ahmedabad Airport (AMD), Lucknow Airport (LKO), Jaipur Airport (JAI) and Guwahati Airport (GAU).

Nearly 70% of the investment will be concentrated in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, where approximately 440 acres have been allocated for development.

Airport cities to support future growth

Inspired by established airport districts including Singapore Changi Airport, Dubai International Airport, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and Incheon International Airport, the developments will combine hotels, offices, retail, restaurants, entertainment venues and convention facilities within walkable districts linked directly to airports, metro systems and surrounding transport networks.

Adani Airports said the airport city model is intended to create long-term economic value while improving passenger convenience and supporting wider urban development.

Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airport Holdings Limited, said: “Around the world, the most successful airport districts have become centres of commerce, tourism and urban growth. As India’s aviation market expands, airports have an opportunity to create value far beyond aviation.”

He added: “We are creating a network of integrated urban destinations where airports become catalysts for investment, employment, better passenger experiences and the long-term growth of the cities they serve.”

Sustainability central to the programme

As part of the project, Adani Airport Holdings has signed hotel management agreements with IHG Hotels & Resorts to develop five luxury and premium hotels, including the introduction of the Kimpton brand to India.

The company is also working with international partners across hospitality, retail, food and beverage, entertainment and commercial development.

All airport city projects have achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold pre-certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, reflecting a focus on sustainable construction, energy efficiency, walkability and high-quality public spaces.

Airport officials said the developments are intended to create long-term economic ecosystems that generate employment, attract investment and strengthen passenger experiences while supporting the continued growth of India’s aviation sector.
