Edmonton International Airport (YEG) has achieved Level 3 certification from the globally recognised Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) programme, marking a major milestone in its ongoing commitment to sustainability and carbon reduction.
The certification recognises YEG’s success in managing and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions while actively collaborating with airlines, tenants, ground handlers, catering companies, fuelling firms and other on-site businesses to cut carbon emissions across the airport campus. It also requires the airport to report on Scope 3 emissions, which include aircraft movements, business travel and other indirect activities.
Myron Keehn, President and CEO of Edmonton International Airport (YEG), said: “Achieving ACA Level 3 is a significant milestone that reflects YEG’s commitment to sustainability and climate action. Our airport city sustainability campus plays a vital role in shaping a more sustainable future for the aviation industry through innovation, collaboration and clean technology. We are committed to advancing our carbon management initiatives, transparent data reporting and strategic partner engagement. This Level 3 achievement marks an important step as we continue progressing toward the next levels of ACA and a net-zero future.”
Free webinar – The future of asset management in global aviation

Join this virtual panel to hear from some of the AtkinsRéalis and aviation sector experts as we discuss how asset management is changing and the impact it will have on the future operations of airports throughout the world.
The ACI Airport Carbon Accreditation programme is the only institutionally endorsed carbon management standard for airports, requiring detailed measurement, management and reduction of carbon emissions.
Over the past five years, Edmonton Airports has implemented several key sustainability initiatives. These include building a $12 million natural gas-powered CoGeneration facility, cutting its combined Scope 1 and 2 emissions by around five per cent; replacing more than 18,000 light fixtures with energy-efficient LEDs; and completing a comprehensive greenhouse gas inventory in line with the GHG Protocol.
With a goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, YEG continues to embed sustainability into all operations through data-driven carbon management and its net-zero action plan.
