Miami International Airport has unveiled plans for a new AI powered operations and emergency response centre designed to strengthen airport safety and operational coordination.

Miami International Airport (MIA) has unveiled plans for a new state of the art Airport Operations Centre and Digital Monitoring Hub as part of its wider airport modernisation strategy.
The new facility is scheduled for completion in 2027 and will become the first airport operations centre of its kind in the United States.

The US$33 million facility will span more than 13,000 square feet and is designed to enhance airport safety, operational coordination and emergency response capabilities.
According to airport officials, the centre will feature AI powered long range pan tilt zoom cameras, real time digital tower technology and a large integrated panoramic video wall providing 360 degree visibility across airside, landside and terminal operations.
Daniella Levine Cava said the new operations hub represents another major step within the airport’s long term transformation programme focused on improving security, passenger experience and operational resilience.
The facility will also include hurricane resistant towers, cyber secure infrastructure and dedicated space for representatives from 30 agencies to operate together during emergency situations.
Miami International Airport stated that the centre will be capable of transitioning into a full emergency operations centre during crisis events.
The new operations hub forms part of the airport’s wider US$14 billion Modernisation in Action programme, which includes more than 200 infrastructure projects planned over the next five years.
Other projects within the programme include terminal upgrades, restroom renovations, baggage infrastructure improvements, new gate expansions and modernisation works across passenger facilities.
