Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL) is strengthening oversight of its CCTV infrastructure following the successful completion of a three-month monitoring trial designed to improve operational resilience and maintenance planning.

The airport has been assessing a new automated assurance platform developed by Telent, capable of carrying out daily checks across the airport’s CCTV estate and providing continuous visibility into camera performance and system condition.

The system automatically verifies camera connectivity, checks image alignment against reference views and monitors image quality. It can also identify issues such as obstruction, dirt contamination or camera degradation before they impact operations.

Throughout the trial, Liverpool John Lennon Airport worked closely with its internal technical services teams and on-site maintenance contractors to configure and calibrate the platform across the airport’s CCTV network.

According to the airport, the trial demonstrated how automated monitoring can provide earlier visibility of potential issues compared with traditional reactive fault reporting or scheduled inspections.

The approach allows engineers to plan maintenance more effectively and respond to issues before they affect operational performance.

Michael Brown, Head of Technical Services at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, said the system has provided valuable visibility into the condition of the airport’s CCTV estate.

“The platform provides consistent visibility of system performance and early insight into potential issues, allowing us to take a more proactive approach to maintenance,” he said.

Following the completion of the trial, rollout of the platform across the airport’s wider CCTV infrastructure began on 1 April.

The next phase will extend monitoring capabilities across the full camera network, supporting a more data-driven maintenance strategy and improving long-term operational assurance.

The project reflects growing investment by airports in digital infrastructure and monitoring technologies designed to strengthen resilience, improve operational efficiency and reduce the risk of unplanned system failures.
