Salvador Bahia Airport (SSA), part of the VINCI Airports network, has launched a new version of its virtual assistant, Ana, incorporating generative artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance the passenger experience through more intuitive and personalised interactions.

The upgraded assistant is designed to understand questions written in natural language, allowing passengers to ask for information in their own words rather than navigating predefined menus. The enhancement forms part of the airport’s wider digital transformation strategy, aimed at making travel information more accessible throughout the passenger journey.

Ana is available 24 hours a day through the airport’s website, social media channels and QR codes positioned across the terminal, providing passengers with quick access to travel information before, during and after their journeys.

AI assistant delivers real-time passenger information

The new version of Ana can answer questions on a wide range of airport services, including boarding documentation, baggage regulations, flight status, boarding gates, retail and food outlets, terminal facilities, airline customer service contacts and passenger support channels.

The assistant combines Salvador Bahia Airport’s official information database with live operational data, enabling it to provide passengers with up-to-date flight information and guidance throughout their journey.

Developed by Brazilian digital solutions company Strelo, the upgraded platform reflects VINCI Airports’ wider commitment to using digital technologies to improve operational efficiency and enhance customer service across its airport network.

Daniela Franco, Communications Manager at Salvador Bahia Airport, said: “Travelling already involves many decisions and questions. We want Ana to be the passenger’s first choice whenever they have a question about their journey. Whether they are still at home or already at the airport, she is ready to provide quick, simple guidance through a natural conversation.”

Shankar Cabus, Chief Executive Officer of Strelo, said the introduction of generative AI reflects changing passenger expectations for digital services, enabling travellers to receive clear answers through natural conversations while allowing the system to continuously improve through each interaction.

The airport also confirmed that the new platform provides the foundation for future digital services, including an interactive airport map and WhatsApp flight status notifications, further expanding the digital tools available to passengers travelling through Salvador Bahia Airport.
