Fraport Brasil has won the concession to manage Jericoacoara Airport from 2026, expanding its operations in Ceará and committing to major modernisation.
Fraport Brasil S.A. Aeroporto de Fortaleza, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fraport AG and the current operator of Fortaleza Airport, has secured the public tender to operate Jericoacoara Airport (JJD) in northeastern Brazil. The company expects to assume management in the autumn of 2026.
The concession was granted under the Brazilian government’s AmpliAR programme, which integrates regional airports into existing concessions. Contract signing is planned for spring 2026, subject to approvals. Once incorporated into the Fortaleza Airport concession, Jericoacoara Airport will be operated by Fraport Brasil S.A. Aeroporto until the concession ends in 2047. This will bring both airports in the state of Ceará under the company’s management.
The concession includes responsibility for the passenger terminal and all landside and airside infrastructure, such as retail facilities and parking. Fraport Brasil has committed to investing in modernising Jericoacoara Airport within the first three years of taking over operations.
Fraport CEO Dr. Stefan Schulte stated: “We’re pleased to expand our involvement in Brazil and work with our experienced team to help actively drive the development of Jericoacoara Airport and promote tourism in Ceará.”
Jericoacoara Airport handled around 212,000 passengers in 2024. The region is one of Brazil’s most popular destinations, known for its long beaches, dune landscapes, lagoons and its nationally renowned park.
Fraport AG has operated in Brazil since 2017 through two separate concessions for the airports of Fortaleza and Porto Alegre. During this period, the company has modernised the facilities and supported its sustained development.
