Denver International Airport and Southwest Airlines have launched a touchless bag drop service, using biometric technology to streamline passenger processing and improve travel efficiency.

Denver International Airport (DEN) and Southwest Airlines have launched a new TSA PreCheck Touchless ID bag drop service, designed to improve passenger processing and streamline the airport experience.
The new system allows eligible passengers to check bags without presenting physical identification, using facial comparison technology to verify identity at self service bag drop units.

The service builds on earlier biometric initiatives at DEN, including dedicated TSA PreCheck Touchless ID lanes introduced at security checkpoints in 2025. These lanes enable faster identity verification and reduce queue times for enrolled passengers.
To use the service, passengers must be enrolled in TSA PreCheck, be at least 18 years old and have valid passport details stored in their Southwest Airlines profile. Travellers must also opt into the programme through the airline’s mobile app.
At the airport, passengers print bag tags at kiosks before proceeding to self bag drop units, where identity is confirmed using touchless biometric verification. Access to the dedicated bag drop area is indicated on the passenger’s mobile boarding pass.
Phil Washington, Chief Executive Officer of DEN, said the initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance efficiency while maintaining high safety standards.
The system is located within the Jeppesen Terminal and is currently available to Southwest Airlines passengers departing from DEN.
The rollout reflects growing adoption of biometric technologies across airports, supporting more seamless and contactless passenger journeys while improving operational efficiency.
