Bournemouth Airport applies for terminal expansion

Bournemouth Airport have applied to BCP Council for the expansion of their terminal, after passenger numbers are expected to reach 1 million.
Bournemouth Airport has applied to expand its terminal buildings in order to better accommodate their growing passenger numbers.
The airport submitted the plans, which included car parking improvements, baggage handling facilities and drop-off stations to BCP Council.
Earlier this year, Bournemouth Airport said that they expected to see more than 1 million passengers in 2024. It will be the highest figures reached since 2008. This is part of a £5 million investment in new facilities, equipment and staff.
TUI plan to add an extra plane in 2024, with an extra 60,000 seats available.
Andrew Bell, chief executive of airport owner RCA, said: “This is a major investment in the future of Bournemouth Airport, supporting hundreds of jobs and cementing Bournemouth’s position as the flagship airport for the region.
“These new facilities will not only accommodate growing demand but also significantly enhance the travel experience for all our passengers.
“We are proud to be spearheading this important project, which underscores our commitment to the local economy and community.”
Multiple buildings will be demolished at the site, which the airport said were “approaching the end of useful life,” this year.
The MT Building, the Jets Building and the Adjacent Buildings are set to be demolished over August and September.
