Salvador Bahia Airport has become the first Brazilian airport to deploy a Mobile Crisis Coordination Post, enabling on-site coordination of emergency response teams.
Salvador Bahia Airport (SSA), a member of the VINCI Airports network, has introduced a Mobile Crisis Coordination Post (PCM), an unprecedented structure among Brazilian airports that allows emergency response to be coordinated directly at the scene of an occurrence.
The vehicle is already in operation at Salvador Bahia Airport and was developed to be activated in occurrences foreseen in the airport’s emergency, safety and continuity plans. Equipped with communication systems, its own energy supply and space for six leadership positions, the unit brings together professionals from the different agencies involved in responding to a critical situation within a single environment.
The structure represents a departure from the most common model used by Brazilian airports for this type of operation, which typically involves 4x4 vehicles transporting teams to the scene. The new post at Salvador Airport instead functions as a mobile coordination room, with approximately 6m² of space and six leadership positions.
In addition to the workspace, the vehicle includes a bathroom and compartments for transporting stretchers and pre-hospital care equipment. It is also fitted with computers, four monitoring screens, a videoconferencing system, cameras, GSM telephones and Starlink antennas, ensuring connectivity even when other communication channels may be compromised. A dedicated generator keeps the equipment running uninterruptedly.
Jader Depa, Operational Efficiency Manager at Salvador Bahia Airport, said: “In an emergency, having a structure prepared on site allows leaders to closely monitor what is happening and make decisions more quickly… it offers infrastructure so that leaders can remain on site, maintain communication and monitor the situation continuously.”
The PCM will be deployed in occurrences involving the airport that activate its emergency plans, bringing together the teams and institutions responsible for the response. The structure may also be made available to support calamity situations or force majeure events, subject to authorisation from the company’s senior leadership.
