Opening 25 December, NMIA combines food, lounges, transit hotel and immersive zones, redefining the airport journey with comfort, culture and personalised passenger experiences

As Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) opens on 25 December, it will offer more than runway capacity. The airport introduces a new vision for Indian aviation, combining travel with culture, hospitality, leisure and urban life. Its non-aeronautical ecosystem has been designed as an experience in its own right, with offerings launching in phases from December through March to ensure operational readiness.

On opening day, NMIA debuts Bombay Bond, a food and beverage concept featuring four home-grown Mumbai favourites: Foo, Bombay Brasserie, Kitab Mahal Charcha and Bayroute. Instead of anonymous global brands, passengers encounter flavours rooted in the city’s culinary memory. Bombay Bond is intended to evoke belonging, whether for first-time visitors or returning Mumbaikars.

Also launching on 25 December is the Meet & Greet (Pranaam) Service, which extends airport hospitality beyond the terminal. The service includes assisted pick-up and drop-off at home, baggage handling, wheelchair support and a personal assistant guiding passengers through retail, dining and boarding. For elderly travellers and premium passengers, Pranaam sets a new standard in personalised airport care.

In January, NMIA will open The Swirl, an 80-room transit hotel entirely within the terminal. Designed for overnight stays and hourly use, it caters to transit passengers, early departures and delayed connections. By bringing hospitality inside the terminal, waiting time is transformed into rest time.

January will also see the arrival of Tea Khana, a curated destination celebrating the ritual of tea. More than a café, Tea Khana offers tea tastings, sampling experiences and retail of premium teas sourced from India and abroad. The concept elevates a familiar habit into a sensorial pause within the airport journey.

By February, the airport will unveil The Purple Lounge, a first-of-its-kind celebrity lounge in India. With private rooms, living-room-style spaces, white-glove service and fully customisable menus, it prioritises discretion, comfort and personalisation. NMIA recognises that premium travellers increasingly value privacy as much as luxury.

February also introduces NaviVerse, a 1,000-square-metre immersive experiential zone located immediately after security. Designed to de-stress travellers, NaviVerse uses LED projections, static art and kinetic installations to tell the cultural stories of Mumbai, Maharashtra and India. Post-security time becomes an emotional and visual journey, similar to a museum experience.

From February to March, NMIA will open the Arrival Forecourt, a public space for both arriving passengers and city visitors. The forecourt blends entertainment zones, bowling alleys, a double-level microbrewery and popular dining formats. A dedicated street-food concept will curate iconic food chains from across India, turning the airport frontage into a lively plaza rather than a functional transit edge.

Together, these initiatives mark a shift in airport design philosophy. At NMIA, non-aeronautical services are central to passenger engagement and city integration. As offerings come online in phases, NMIA positions itself not only as India’s newest airport but as one of its most thoughtfully imagined, where travel begins long before boarding and lingers well after arrival.
