London Heathrow Airport has announced its planned seasonal activities for passengers travelling during the holiday season. The airport will feature decorations, entertainment and services across its terminals, aiming to create a festive atmosphere for travellers.

Heathrow’s terminals will be decorated with Christmas trees, glowing presents and wreaths. Visitors can look forward to appearances by Father Christmas and his elves throughout December, offering a chance for passengers to meet and interact with the iconic holiday figure.

In addition to these appearances, Heathrow will showcase Bjorn, a lifelike polar bear model, and host musical performances by The Jingle Belles from 19 to 23 December 2024. Furthermore, the airport will offer several interactive opportunities, such as a digital caricaturist creating personalised portraits and crafting sessions for children led by “Christmas Fairies.” These activities are designed to provide entertainment while passengers wait for flights.

Heathrow will expand its retail options during the holidays, including a luxury shopping suite in Terminal 4 and a complimentary gift-wrapping service in all terminals. The airport has also introduced a digital quiz on its website to help passengers find suitable gifts to purchase before boarding.

For those interested in holiday-themed gaming, arcade-style claw machines will be set up across the terminals, offering chances to win branded prizes.

To ensure smooth travel during winter weather, Heathrow has prepared its fleet of snow-clearing vehicles and maintains a stockpile of de-icing materials. The airport works closely with the Met Office for weather forecasts and updates to minimise disruptions. Ongoing security upgrades may lead to longer processing times, and travellers are encouraged to plan accordingly. Heathrow staff will be available to assist passengers throughout their journey.

Fraser Brown, Retail Director at Heathrow, said: “Winter is a special time at Heathrow as we help passengers on their way to reunite and celebrate with loved ones. Throughout the year, our team has been planning festive surprises so the celebrations can begin at the airport. We are proud to reveal a range of exciting retail offers to make gifting easier, visits from iconic Christmas characters and entertaining activities to make every journey better.”

The festive initiatives are part of Heathrow’s broader efforts to enhance passenger experiences during the busy holiday travel period.
