The Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM) is the newest recipient of Pride YMM’s Rainbow Space designation.
YMM joins 25 other organisations and businesses in promoting and fostering a safe and inclusive spaces for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals at Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo. YMM has taken specific steps to receive the Rainbow Space designation and recognition for their commitment to inclusion. Volunteer members of Pride YMM conducted a review of Fort McMurray Airport Authority’s (FMAA) HR policies, journeyed through the terminal as mock passengers, and reviewed all signage to ensure the passenger experience is inclusive in every aspect. FMAA employees also participated in inclusivity training facilitated Pride YMM members.
“Equity, diversity and inclusion has always been a priority of our organisation,” says Denean Robinson, President & CEO of the Airport Authority. “FMAA firmly believes that providing equality of opportunity, valuing diversity, and promoting a culture of inclusion are critical to our success. We want everyone to feel welcome and comfortable while at our terminal.”
Hanna Fridhed, Executive Director of Pride YMM, recognises the importance of YMM to the community, “Our airport is an important hub in our region, and the first space many are greeted by when they arrive. FMAA’s proactive work to be a safe space for all that travel through our region, those who utilise YMM for business and events, as well as staff is a crucial step towards an inclusive region and community. We are proud to say the Fort McMurray International Airport is now a certified Rainbow Space!”
