Boston Logan remote screening

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has launched a new remote passenger screening pilot programme for travellers using Boston Logan International Airport (BOS).

The initiative, introduced in partnership with Massachusetts Port Authority, is designed to provide passengers with an alternative airport processing option before arriving at the terminal.

Boston Logan introduces remote security screening facility

The pilot programme is currently operating from a dedicated remote screening facility located in Framingham, Massachusetts.

Passengers travelling on eligible JetBlue and Delta Air Lines services departing Boston Logan between 5:30am and 4pm can use the facility.

Travellers are able to park at the Framingham location, complete airline check-in and security screening, and then board a secure bus providing direct access to the secure side of their departure terminal.

According to TSA officials, the programme is intended to reduce congestion at airport terminals, ease parking pressures and provide greater flexibility for passengers.

Ha Nguyen McNeill said the initiative is focused on creating additional options for travellers while maintaining existing security standards.

The Framingham facility is currently offering tickets for $9, while children travelling with a ticketed adult can use the service free of charge. Daily parking is available for $7.

The programme forms part of broader efforts to explore remote passenger processing options across the United States. Similar remote screening operations are already in place at airports serving Los Angeles, Atlanta and New York JFK.

TSA stated that the pilot will help assess how remote screening facilities can contribute to a smoother and more efficient passenger journey.
