Kirsty Wells

AvSec Compliance Team Manager (SeMS,) UK CAA

Kirsty Wells is an Aviation Security Compliance Manager, responsible for the operational roll out of Security Management Systems (SeMS) on behalf of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Kirsty has been undertaking the lead on SeMS activities for the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) since the operational roll out was discharged from the Department of Transport (DfT) in early 2015.

Kirsty has had the pleasure of leading many entities, across all modal areas as their designated Lead for SeMS, in order to provide advice, guidance and assistance in the implementation of a SeMS. Kirsty has focused her work on SeMS in creating a collaborative and information sharing security culture within the aviation security industry to ensure that we are one step ahead in negating the ever evolving vulnerabilities as much as is possible, in conjunction with effective quality assurance.

Kirsty manages a small team in leading this change with the aviation security industry by moving it towards a risk-based and performance based regulatory oversight. This is focussed on enhancing the quality assurance and oversight of risk management within the civil aviation industry.

Before joining the CAA in April 2015, Kirsty has worked for Southampton Airport and Heathrow Airport, undertaking roles within Security Management, Business Resilience and Emergency Planning. This allowed us, here at the CAA, to use her operational and management skills at the forefront in the development of SeMS within aviation security for all stakeholders involved.
