Mario Gongora

Dr. Mario Gongora is the Associate Professor – Software in the School of Computer Science, and the Deputy Director of the Centre for Computational Intelligence at De Montfort University. He is a leading researcher in the area of applied computational intelligence. His research started in the field of robotics and machine learning, and for the last 15 years has been researching in the application of Artificial Intelligence techniques into the fields of Data mining large and complex datasets and modelling Natural Phenomena, including identification, simulation and optimisation. He is running a spinout company (Venuesim, created by venture capital and the University) to commercialise his research outcomes into robust behaviour simulation systems for customers in large Venues and complex processes.

Dr. Gongora has also an impressive track record in international collaboration, working with researchers from Universities in Spain (Cordoba and Granada and the Centre for Soft Computing), Germany (Ulm University), Finland (Tampere University), Colombia (Javerian and EIA Universities) among others. Collaborations include as well with industry, having worked with various airports (Birmingham and East Midlands in the UK, and Frankfurt in Germany) as well as with IATA (International Air Transport Association) with whom he has been invited to collaborate with the international guidelines for their Smart Security programme.
