Wayne Smith

Wayne over 30 yours of aviation IT experience.  Initially starting as a programmer he has made his way through the ranks to become the first ever Director of IT & Information Security at Birmingham Airport.  He is passionate for utilising IT in a pragmatic and cost-effective way to deliver real benefits to the organisation.  His no-nonsense approach has earned him the respect of his colleagues, peers and suppliers.

He has been responsible for transforming the IT Service from a “necessary evil” into a strategic directorate which includes introducing a 24-hour IT presence into the Airport operation. 

He holds a Master’s Degree in Airport Management in addition to being a Fellow of the British Computer Society (BCS) where he holds Chartered status and is also a member of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists and has been admitted into the Freedom of the City of London.
